Fluoride

Fluoride is an elective service we offer to patients of all ages. After your teeth are cleaned, they are more ready to accept treatment, and having fluoride applied at our family dentistry office near Milwaukee is an ideal way to prevent tooth decay. Fluoride soaks into your teeth, exposed root surfaces, cracks, and around fillings and crowns to strengthen your teeth and make dental work last longer.

We offer two options for fluoride treatment at our family dentistry office: neutral fluoride and acidulated fluoride. Neutral fluoride is for patients with composites, veneers, cement, braces, or other restorative work that may be affected by the high concentration of acidulated fluoride. We have gel trays, foam trays, and rinses; our hygienist will tell you which method she recommends for your teeth. You can choose from a variety of flavors, including mint, berry, orange, grape, apple, and banana split.

Cavity and Root Canal Therapy

Although having a cavity treated is never a pleasant experience, early detection and treatment of tooth decay is essential to preventing further complications. If a cavity continues to progress, the “pulp,” or soft tissue, of the tooth can become infected. In this case, root canal therapy must be performed, which involves removing the top part of the tooth and cleaning infected tissue from the root canal. Root canal therapy may also be performed if a tooth has undergone trauma, such as a severe blow or injury.

Sealants

A single bristle of the tooth brush is still not skinny enough to fit into the pits of the back teeth, and bacteria can get in these pits and cause decay. Sealants application is an elective, preventative procedure that fills in the pit of the tooth with a clear or tooth colored resin. This way bacteria cannot get into the pits of the back teeth, preventing the development of decay in the areas that are most susceptible. Visit our office to look into sealants for your whole family. Gingivitis Therapy

Gum disease can cause a variety of problems including bleeding, red, and swollen gums. If not treated, gum disease can also lead to tooth loss and other more serious health problems. Gingivitis therapy is designed to help heal patients with active gingivitis. To check for gum disease, our dental staff will look for symptoms such as sensitive gums and pockets of bleeding tissue. The hygienist will then treat the area with an antibiotic over one or several visits to eliminate the bacteria. Once this is achieved, the patient can return to regular routine cleaning appointments. Therapy for Periodontitis

We offer exceptionally effective periodontal therapy at our office to help maintain the overall health of your family. Dentistry is a powerful tool in preventing the pain and serious complications, such as heart disease, that periodontitis can cause.

When gingivitis is not treated soon enough, the bone underneath the gum tissue can become infected. The patient may not feel this at all, but he or she may in fact be losing bone level around the infected gum area. Periodontal therapy detoxifies the root surface of a tooth to help restore it to health. This procedure is done by the dental hygienist and does not involve surgery of any type.

ARESTIN®

ARESTIN® is an antibiotic treatment that is placed by the hygienist in the infected areas of the gums. This patented treatment comes in powder form and contains powerful microspheres (tiny, bead-shaped particles) of the antibiotic minocycline, which releases slowly for up to 21 days to fight infection. Proven in several clinical studies, ARESTIN® is the preferred choice for many dental professionals, including the family dentistry staff at our Milwaukee-area office.

NTI

Nocioceptive Trigeminal Inhibition (NTI) Tension Suppression System is a device that can be made in as little as one appointment for those that suffer morning headaches from a clenched jaw while they sleep. The NTI device is made to relieve jaw pain and to help alleviate migraines caused by clenching and grinding. This device is worn only when sleeping to help relax the jaw so the muscles are not strained in the morning. Splints
